He looked up in surprise when the young woman stopped him. He’d been half buried in his next patient’s file, mentally walking through the spinal fusion he had later that afternoon. But at the sound of the voice, his eyebrows shot up and he forced himself to refocus his attention. Yeah, no kidding she was NEW. Everybody had that look their first day – hell, their first month. And he could sympathize. He offered her a slight smile in greeting and held out his hand.

“Yeah, that’s me,” he said, sidestepping the attempt at flattery. “But Charlie’s fine. Well – welcome to Hope Zion, Nurse Schuyler. I’m sure we’re grateful to have you.” The smile turned slightly teasing. “I mean, an extra hand’s never a bad thing, right?” Flipping his file closed, he glanced down at the papers in her hand. “Happy to help – what can I do for you? Directions? Advice? Stock tips?

she smiled at him, seeing that he wasn’t being RUDE to her. she had asked someone before, but they just brushed her off like she was nothing.       ❛ well charlie, it’s very nice to meet you. i should probably make this quick, i’m sure that you’re HORRIBLY busy. i wouldn’t want to bother you any longer. ❜       the longer you yap the longer he’s going to be standing there, come on liza! she sighed at her own thoughts, straightening herself out slightly.

❛ i’m actually looking for the break room, if i’m being honest. i’ve tried asking other people, and there’s not really a map of this building. besides, most of them don’t really ENJOY new comers. ❜       she let out more of an embarrassed chuckle than anything, and she just glanced down at her feet.       ❛ i’m really sorry about this. my son kept me up all night, he had like FIVE nightmares. ❜       oh god, was she ever going to stop talking?
